Back around 1970, Bob Russell returned home one night to find that his 1967 Austin Healey had been stolen from in front of his home near Temple University in Philadelphia. It is sad to have lost such a beautiful roadster, but it happens on a fairly regular basis. What is so unusual is that the car has been recovered after 42 years.

While skimming across the offerings on eBay recently, Mr. Russell found his car being sold by a Los Angeles bad credit car dealer. He was sure it was his car because the VIN number matched the one on his original title. He called the dealer only to be told that he was out of luck. His next call was to the L.A police who told him they could not recover it because it was not listed as an active stolen car. That led Russell to call the Philadelphia Police Department. After digging up an old teletype report of the original complaint, the Philly P.D created a new file called ”re-entered stolen vehicle” so the report would not add to current crime statistics. That file also added the Austin Healy to the active stolen car files, allowing it to be recovered in L.A.

After reimbursing the L.A authorities for $600 in towing fees, Russell has been reunited with the love of his life (well, the car comes in second to his wife, or so he says). It needs a little work, but after 42 years, Russell is glad to pay for the restoration work.

Drivers and want-to-be drivers within and around Greenville, PA now have a stronger reason than ever to purchase a new car with the auto loan rate dropping to 2.5 per cent at Bessemer System Federal Credit Union.

With rates so low, car buyers can save hundreds of dollars each year as they pay off their PA auto loans. The credit union is offering the loan for its members to use in the purchasing of a new 2012 model car. To qualify for one of these low-rate loans, which may be for up to 60 months in length, Bessemer System Federal Credit Union members may need to have their credit score checked.

It is likely that this low rate will entice buyers to make purchases as has happened so far this year across the nation.

The Pennsylvania state Supreme Court has ruled that uninsured drivers may sue insured drivers if they are injured in an accident caused by the covered motorist.

Though the right to sue someone who injures you may seem to be a right that does not need to be provided by a court, in Pennsylvania it took a 2006 collision to codify the right to sue another for damages. The case before the court stemmed from an incident when an insured driver hit an uninsured driver on Route 413 in Bucks County and injured the later.

The injured driver sued the driver at fault, who then fought back with the claim that the injured should be made liable for his or her own injuries since it was his or her social responsibility to buy insurance. The court ruled that while the uninsured can indeed sue the insured, they can only do so for lost wages and medical expenses. They are not able to collect for pain and suffering, and if they caused the accident, they’ve got no recourse whatsoever.

Remember, you can’t get a car loan in Pennsylvania from the vast majority of lenders unless you have a full coverage insurance policy on your car, truck, or suv.

Sometimes it seems that you need a crystal ball to understand what will affect your car insurance premiums. You might even think that some one just throws a dart at a piece of paper with a price on it and that price is your premium. Every carrier has its own set of criteria, but a few things that you do, will raise your rate universally.

Driving without a seatbelt.

Driving too slow.

Failing to stop for a school bus.

Littering.

All of these violations seem to be innocuous, but can raise your rates. This can cut into your monthly budget, especially if you opted for a Pennsylvania auto loan that stretched your spending power from the start. Each carries a point penalty on your driver’s license. Points on your license shows a level of irresponsibility and risk that insurers try to protect themselves from.
